I was fortunate to visit Spence House at Beaulieu whilst working on the Sir Basil Spence Archive Project. It's set in the most idyllic location and on a sunny January day I enjoyed a commanding view of the river from the cantilevered living room. I could imagine how nice it must have been for the architect and his family to escape the big smoke of London at weekends and arrive somewhere that must have felt half a world away...
